Organs of examination:
- Thyroid gland, saliva gland, cervical lymph nodes.
Preparation:
- Wear a non-collar T-shirt. Remove the necklace during the scanning.
Aim:
- To determine where is the lump and swelling of the neck is arising from, the thyroid or an adjacent structure eg. vessels, lymph nodes etc. To analyze the appearance of the thyroid nodules and determine if they are not dangerous to life (benign nodule) or is it life threatening (malignant nodule) and may require a biopsy. Follow up structural changes and progress in thyroiditis, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism and thyroid nodules.
